Some facts about Loggerheads, Caretta caretta
- Females nest an average of every 2½ years
- Females lay an average of 3½ nest per year during nesting years
- Loggerheads have an alternate gait.
- Nesting time is between 1 and 2 hours and 90 to 130 ping-pong ball size eggs are laid.
- Emergence peaks at midnight and is apparently based on surface temperature.
- Emergence may occur 1 to 7 days after pipping. There may or may not be a depression over the nest.
- There may be additional emergence on subsequent nights.
- Generally as the nest temperature goes up so does the ratio of females to males.
